Also, if you have some (a lot of) money for unique meal, go to Noma restaurant. It's recently been named number 1 restaurant worldwide and the chef is passionate about using local and traditional ingredients. just like the Vikings ate, with a modern flair and incredibly stylish presentation.

If you have an afternoon to spare and it's sunny, take a wonderful train north to the Louisiana, an open air museum of modern art, with masterpieces from Moore and others placed on grass and overlooking the sea. lovely!

Take lots of money - this is very expensive city in case you want to visit some museums, look at the inside of castles and eat some food at the restaurants along Stroget.

Sorry but gileleje is a bit further than half an hour from copenhagen, even by car. With train you have to go to Helsingør first, then change to a new train or bus and go further north from at least 3/4 of another hour.If you go by car on the motorway it takes about an hour.I know I live in Helsingør and have tried to go both by car and train quite a few times.Gileleje is just a small fishingvillage and not that interesting. There is more life, sights and many more beuatiful buildings in copenhagen

Go see Cristiania in the Christianshavn neighbourhood. It's a world of its own, although only a shadow of what it once was.

Try and get a free bike from near central station. Tivoli is lots of fun but get the day pass if you want to do lots of rides as otherwise it's expensive. The little mermaid is a little bit of a disapointment, Free Christiana is an interesting part of town, if you're interested in the Royal Stuff go to see the changing of the guard - its where the British stole the idea from!

If you're into Cafes try Stelling Café (in Nytorv square - off Stroget), designed by local Arne Jacobsen, Robert's Coffee (in the latin quarter)a very nice one and Bankraat (in Nansensgade) a very strange place. Walk around, Copenhagen is full of nice spots, gardens and buildings. Visit Nyhavn (the most characteristic) and Amalienborg Palace

If you have the time, TAKE time to really see Copenhagen, the buildings are old and most of them (Down Town Copenhagen) are nicely decorated, great rooftops, towers and great old architecture. Have fun, and like Michele wrote, bring a lot of money, things are not cheep, but if you live out side EU, you can buy things duty free and get the taxes back (some of it, anyways) in the airport!

Visit Gilleleje(a nice town by the sea). It's 30 minutes by train from the centre of Copenhagen. It's also less expensive than Copenhagen itself.

Everyone is going to see the little Mermaid on "lange linie", but you will get totally dissapointed, it is very small and easy to pass by (if it wasn't for all the tourists)..
As Michele said, Copenhagen isn't Cheap it is on the list of top 5 most expensive towns to live in. You should deffinently go to Christiania, it is free part of copenhagen, where a lot of stuff is happing..

get out of copenhagen!
Copenhagen is a small capital, and therefore just tries to mimic bigger capitals around the world.
Denmark is a very nice country, but Copenhagen is "the least danish"...
