The best tip I can give anyone about Tuscany is that Pisa, albeit a nice little town, is over-rated. Get there early, check out the tower that stands as a monument to half-assed engineering--take a tour via carriage, have some lunch, and then head for the hills, literally. Spend your time and money in the less crowded towns of Siena and Lucca (home of Puccini.) Lounge on the steps of the church in Lucca and listen to a street performer play classical guitar, walk along the old medeival walls to get an better-than-average view of the town.

the hilltop towns are beautiful, Motalcino, Moltipulciano, etc, as well as Sienna. Really walking around is the best way to see the gorgeous country side!

The Cinqune Terra... It is the most prettiest view I have even seen. There really isn't more than the tower in Pisa but Lucca was a great city also. Have fun!

Definitely see Siena, sitting in the middle of the Piazza is so wonderful with a slice of pizza and people watching:) It is an absolutely wonderful, quaint town and the bus drive from Florence is beautiful!

Try visit a couple of vineyards - a large and famous one and one that's small and family-run to get a taste of both.

I loved Volterra. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We did lots of day trips from there. Montepulciano was great too. We stayed in bed and breakfasts and the people were great. Lucca was nice as well.

Make sure you go to montalcino in tuscany - super small, less touristy and the wine- brunello di montalcino is a must - try this winery - di frassino.
Siena is also amazing - i would recommend satying with Gulio at La Limonaia.net - that was the best experience (just got back last week).

We rented a 12th centurty castle that was converted into rental apartments. I believe it was in Montespertoli. Lots of olive/vinyards around. Great landscapes, friendly people! Even more friendly if you know some Italian

Go visit the villages. The towns are nice, but what I most liked about Tuscany is the countryside! Visit Castello di Brolio (near Siena, I went there by mountain bike)... Greve in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti... If you drive, just stop, get out of the car - and breathe... Have a nice time!

don't stay in pisa any longewr than it takes to see the tower and its square. also, renting a car in tuscany is the way to see it best. it may seem expensive, but the freedom it allows youy saves you hours and allows you yo see places you couldn't in trains. siena is great by the way. try agriturismo marciano for 2 or 3 nights.
