Well, Patagonia is really big, but if you have time and money you can go anywhere. the glacier Perito Moreno is a must. So you want to look for information about it and the nearest places to go and see from there.

You must see the Glacier Perito Moreno, it's simply magical, then try to see some whales in their habit, you could find them at Puerto Madryn, travel as much as you can by car, train or anyway with means by ground where you can see the panorama. Meet as many people as you can, people there are easy, nice. But above all, have loads of fun.

Glaciar Perito Moreno. El Clafate is really nice and if you want to see animals go to Puerto Madryn. Bariloche is very cool too.

I've been to El Chaltén and El Calafate. If you like trekking, stay a little more in El Chaltén, there are lots of trekking tracks and it's worth a while to hire a tent and stay 1 or 2 night in the national park. Excursions to Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy (Laguna de los 3) will be unforgettable. Just allow 1 or 2 extra days in case bad weather doesn't allow the stunning view of the mountains.
In El Calafate there are plenty of touristic activity, but the best is surely the visit to Perito Moreno glacier, there is the possibilite to trek the glacier (1h and half - medium, or 4 hours - hard) or also just go to the viewpoint and take photos. If in summer, ask around since sometimes there are some special visits at night, the view of the glacier with full moon is incredible..

Aside from the great stuff people have already mentioned, check out the Valdez Peninsula. There are penguins, seals and some great wildlife.

I stayed at Calafate in Argentina. Its a small tourist town that is great for accessing the surrounding wonders of Patagonia!! The town has lots of accommodation, shops, supermarket, car rental and various places that offer various trips around Patagonia which includes glacier walks and boat cruises on the lakes to take you to various glaciers!! I recommend taking a cruise on Lake Argentina for the day and hire a car to see the Moreno Glacier another day. There is more to do if you spend more time there. Calafate has some great hostels with lots of travelers to meet!!

I flew from BA to Califate about 1200mi south then drove to El Chatan. This puts you within a short hike to mind-blowing views of Fitz Roy Peak. Truly spectacular.
