If travelling from America or Europe, try to add extra time to visit both countries. Australia has a lot of variety from desert to rainforest to the white sandy beaches, with temperatures from tropical to similar to Europe (in Tasmania). NZ is just as beautiful with mountains and rolling green hills, with temperatures much more like Europe - plus some OK snow. These countries have very different histories, including since white settlement. Australia was 'colonised' with many Aboriginal tribes wiped out, whereas the Maoris went to war and the colonists had to create a treaty to settle on the land. This difference has had a long term impact on how the indiginous population is recognised in the community. The result is something you need to experience for yourself.

i am a New Zealander so i say you should visit us..As for not coming because Chantelle says it is like BC she is right and wrong..We don't have anything that can kill you eg.animals..no Snakes. The places you can visist are just awesome. Don't knock a place till you have been their and checked it out

i'd pick austraila. i'm canadian and NZ looks exactly like British Columbia, so theres no need for me to travel half way across to the world to see a country that looks exactly like my own. Austraila looks more appealing ... all the islands, beaches, landscapes, outback, reef, etc.

NZ for the beauty of the landscape. However, I'm Aussie and wouldn't want to live anywhere else

Oz is definitely more about the parties and NZ is way more laid back and chilled. Its more about the adrenaline rush (eg bungy and snowsports) whereas oz is a lot about going from one extreme to the other (ie outback to reef to city) but its always just a personal thing!! everyones different!

New Zealand I must say. Best country I've ever been in. Although living is more expensive than OZ, the country is more versatile, prettier, people are friendlier and overall it would be the country I wanna live in, one day ;-)

If you are on a budget or have limited time, I think New Zealand has got to be your choice. You can literally see the whole country in about 2 months. And it's really really amazing. It's easy to get around and there is tons to do. Australia is wonderful, but it's almost too big to tackle. Think about it this way, where are you going to get more bang for your buck, a country the size of the United States or one the size of Italy? But then again, you could always do both!

Both. But if you do not have much time, it is better to go to NZ. If you have more time, go to Australia. Also, if you are a tree person, go to NZ but if you are a sea person, go to Australia.

New Zealand. People are just lovely (if you think Irish are friendly, wait to meet somr kiwis). Landscape is amazing and so different from place to place. Heaps of activities offered. City or country side, there is both. And, the best point, you can drive through it all!!

It depends what your after and when your going. I must admit I'd would choose Australia any day of the week! New Zealand has great natural beauty, food and wine - but thats it and Australia has all this and more. Most of the time in NZ you will feel like your visiting a small town - there are no towns like Melbourne or Sydney, no beaches like Byron Bay or Bondi, and no diving like the Great Barrier Reef.

Well, I wasn't in Australia yet, New Zealand is great, anyway. A good friend was both, he favoured New Zealand, because there's a lot of different landscapes, more green, especially on the Southern Island. But, in Australia his car has been stolen, and he has been damned by an old aborigine witch. So probably, he is unobjective now...
