Decent restaurants have good water, otherwise stay with something bottled or processed.

I was there for 7 months, and stayed on bottled water the entire time. Aguazul is a good brand up there for bottled water. You can also find Dasani is some places.

I have before, but I would highly recommend you do not. Purified bottled water is available in most markets/stores. If you will be there for 1 year, you are better off buying the 5 gallon containers. A truck selling these drive around different neighborhoods on a regular schedule. You can also find the 5 gallon water containers at supermarkets. I hope that helps.

It's always recommended to drink bottled water. When I was in Honduras, I did brush my teeth with tap water though, never had any problems.

if you dont want to be dragging bottles of water from the supermarket all the time, or if you just dont want to pay much for water, you can invest in a waterfilter (usually about 100 euros if you want a good one), or purifying watertablets. i used iodine drops quite a lot.

In most places in the world drinking local water is not a problem. If there is an epidemic of Typhoid or Cholera in the area, then don't (even if Cholera is not very dangerous these days). Bottled water companies love to sell water, which often is more chemically contaminated than tap water; phthalates etc etc. Actually more than 99.99 percent of travellers get sick from food not from water. Drinking bottled water is a form of magic especially used by travellers from the USA - i.e. I am doing something about my health, as I can't stop eating, taking busses or driving cars (which is really dangerous). If you are still afraid of tap water, try drinking other bottled stuff, in recyclable glass bottles or tins/cans, here I would suggest beer ! (alcohol percentage according to choice).

in many shops and pharmacies you can buy cheaply purified water in plastic bags. much cheaper than bottled one. just remember that when you are drinking purified waters (all salts removed, most of bottled waters are those), it is maybe good to drink something else sometimes too... even from normal food you get salts enough. be aware with fresh salads

So even if I'll be there a year, I should stick to the bottled stuff?

I found that even the locals drink the bottled water and it is readily available in a lot of place. They have big jugs for everyone to drink from in a lot of places.

Rule #1 for any Latam country ... always drink bottled water, if you visit rural towns is better if you brush your teeth as well with bottled water.
Some water may be safe, but is better not to guess
