    Can you drive through Tajikistan nowadays by car?

    Sure you can! No problem, although for some roads SUV or a 4x4 is required! Have fun!

    It is still not recommended, as far as I know. You can hire a local driver for only a small amount of money though.

    As far as I know, you need a GBAO Permittance as there are still russian border controls ( the country is devided into sectors after the civil war). Even Tajik people need this permittance, but it is possible to get it in Dushanbe. There is also a company in Britain that can get you it.
