I traveled alone and as far as personal safety, didn't have any problem at all. Just be careful that you place your belongings as far away from the window as possible wherever you stay. I had some items from a bag stolen through the bars on the ground level window (the shutters didn't lock). They were far from arm's reach, but a pole with a hook must have been used to reach in. Incredible memories of this trip!!! Try rafting down the Alas River for a few days!
