I have personally used both, From Thailand to Cambodia Poi Pet I got on arrival, you have to wait for runners to bring your passport and applicable forms to Cambodia along with the fee PLUS EXPECTED TIPS , it takes a couple hours to process everyone on your bus at a waiting station/ restaurant with Cambodian style toilets no paper , Coming from Vietnam to Cambodia once I used evisa, my wife is Vietnamese she just gets her passport stamped in and out. The Cambodians help my passport at the border on a two day casino trip, with evisa they did not stamp my passport or visa in or out, so Vietnam would not let me back in, went back to Cambodian entry, after explaining my issue several times I was referred to a Captain who looked it up online, kept looking at me like I had done something wrong smirking at me I thought he might actually execute me or something, finally after about an hour and numerous checks and stamps he processed the in and out stamping and Vietnam let me back in, was a worse experience than the arrival visa, obtaining one from a Cambodian embassy in your country would probably be the best idea

Get visa on arrival. I did purchase online and had to somehow pay again on my arrival. Sad to say we got ripoff at the immigration. Be careful of the cutoms officer who sometimes asked you for $$ even if you dont need a visa.

e visa is surely the safer way, because everywhere close to the border to Cambodia you have "officials" to help you for a small bakshish... But the experience of "being helped" was also amazing...

I used e-visa to Cambodia and it was so easy. http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh/e-visa/vindex.aspx But you need to pay by pay-pal.

I came vietnam by boat into cambodia and sweet as to get visa at boader. you will pay a small commision fee to locals, about $3. Public transport waits for other tourists to get visa's anyway so doesnt really slow you down.

Getting a visa at the airport was super easy, but I am not sure about if you come overland.

It depends how you get there. If you fly in, get one at the airport. It's very cheap and if you act nicely, they'll take a tiny amount ($2) for admin. Whatever you do, don't give them grief! There is no proper legislation in Cambodia, so they can charge what they want for admin. I got a month business visa, which is slightly cheaper ($25), but a tourist visa is not much more. But, if you overstay, it's $5 per day. As Vincent said, though, if you get one at the border coming in on a bus/taxi they'll try and fleece you for up to $100!

I bought mine online, and it saved a few minutes at the airport. I used the foreign ministry website here: http://www.mfaic.gov.kh/e-visa/vindex.aspx A word of caution if you're traveling by bus. There is a scam in which the bus stops a few miles from the border and they make you "buy" a visa, at inflated prices, whether you have an e-visa or not. Not much you can do if you get caught in the scam, but only book road travel through a reputable travel agent.

We bought the visa for Cambodia right at the border. So there was no need to buy the e-visa. The procedure doesn’t take a long time.
