Tour Club (tourclub@kyotojp.com) Conveniently located close to Kyoto Station where you'll find easy access to buses, trains and a lot of typical Japanese venues. Staff is friendly, rooms decently clean, prices fair. They have both private and shared rooms, depending on how much you want to spend and your travel habits.

K's House Kyoto Just google it. Best hostel I stayed at in Kyoto and one of best in Japan. They also have one in Tokyo as well as in the Japanese Alps at Hakuba (Nagano Prefecture)

I don't know how central it really is, but it is quite close to Kyoto Station. J-Hoppers Hostel is amazing, and quite inexpensive. I recommend you try to get a Japanese style room, because bunk-beds are not cool.

I agree with Paolo. My brother and i stayed at the Tour Club. Easy to find, friendly staff, close to the train station/restaurants/convenience stores and the roooms are nice. Its pretty cheap too

most of the japanese style guest house r very expensive, if u don't mind western style hotel, can stay in sunroute hotel or hokke hotel in kyoto, both in city centre
