Well I live up in Wensleydale which is just full of small villages and hamlets, our nearest town is Leyburn (about 16miles from me) Its nice, and it does have a good community feel. I would just watch out if you like action and the sort of fast-pace of life in a city then it will be so much different out in a small town!! Also make sure you have some means of transport to get around easily because chances are the nearest decent amenities are a fair way away. I do enjoy living where I live though so have fun!

How small?
St albans is nice, (it is technically a city), but it is still relatively small. Welling-Garden City is also quite nice. Most people around here commute into London and it is rather pricey compared to the rest of the UK, but I would say you will have a better chance of getting work and you will only be 20/30 mins train ride from London. If you have a budget, Luton is in the same area. Its much bigger though. But it has everything you need, including express services into London. I think it is a lot better there than its reputation says it is.
Depends what you are looking for tbh.

Hi! Used to live in a small village in Leicestershire. Absolutely fab! Great countryside and lovely, lovely people! Never too far away for a good night out, but rural enough to enjoy the peace and quiet!

I live in Lancaster, up north, and I love it. Lived here 14 years and still not bored. It's fairly close to everywhere in the uk, and if you're after night life then no worries there - it's a uni town so there are loads of clubs and bars. But it's still relatively quiet and really close to the countryside. And everyone knows that people are friendlier in the north of england ;)

I did live in Eastbourne - that is close to Brighton. It is lovely in the summer but can get a bit lonely in winter. We made a joke that it is the place for language student and pensioners... :)

I lived for the first 18 years of my life in a small town called Leigh in Greater Manchester. It's a complete dump.

It depends on the lifestyle you are looking for! Small towns tend to be quite family orientated. I would also guess there are few small towns where you can exist without a car. I have looked into doing my journey to work (10 minutes by car) by public transport and I would have to leave home an hour earlier than I do now and walk the last mile. I live in a small town in the Thames Valley, and although there are lots of pubs, restaurants and a couple of theatres, we need to drive to a cinema. Of course, being the Thames Valley, we are on a train line to London (although there are no late trains, so you need to drive up the line if you want to stay out late). I suppose your choice will depend on where the work is when you graduate. If you are in a job that is likely to supply an instant network of people, then a small town may work for you. Good luck whatever you decide.

I second that, I lived in a small town in Britain and if the people don't like you then to bad for you cuz there is no one else around.
