I went to Cairo around this time of year (October) and it was hot but it was a dry heat and not too uncomfortable. It was cool at night and our hotel did not have AC and didn't need it. The traffic is a bit scary when it's not gridlocked, but you get used to it. The Egyptian Museum and, of course, Giza are not to be missed. Beware of freelance travel guides who tell you they will show you places "that no one has ever seen." The subway is good. Take a cab to Giza. Do not ride the buses, they are not for tourists. I like to try things that are not for tourists, but trust me, buses do not stop they just slow down as they turn the corner and you are supposed to jump off. Also, a felucca ride on the Nile is very nice. I second what others have said here about prices and haggling.

it's magnificent. (as long as you know some things). Always bargain (sometimes you can get 50% of the price), it's nice experience, but if you don't feel like buying something, don't feel guilty to go away. Drink only bottled water with plastic seal. Don't get in taxi before you agree for the price. If crossing street in Cairo, get between the locals (at least for start, before you learn how to do it yourself).
People are grate, a lot of people helped me (some of them, only some) expected bakshish. It's in their culture, they give it to each other as well so you should read more about prices for different services before you go.
I traveled all thought Egypt and I loved it, both desert aria and Red see. My favorite place was Aswan, with all those islands and temples (Nubian village is must see), and don't miss Abu Simbel.

It's hot and sunny. The food is very good, the people are nice but watch out for pick-pockets (like everywhere) and never accept the first price whether it's at a bazaar or the taxi, bargain but be polite. Also, if someone helps you with anything expect to be asked for bakshish (litte money)...you are not obliged to give it to them, it's up to you, but don't be surprised if they are not happy afterwards. All in all, it is a great place and there is so much to see...I can't wait to go back and listen to the sounds of the streets of Cairo (beeeep beeep beeep).

One thing to remember - when in Egypt and you want to buy anything never accept the first price. Haggle, haggle & haggle! Egyptians are known in the Middle East world to be the best salesmen there is. They will say you are their brother, friend and offer you a cup of tea and make you comfortable and once you are they will move in for the kill! When they see tourist you are represent money and they will get it by subtle means. They are very screwd - they can see a mug coming from a mile. So beware. Don't get me wrong they are lovely people - try to outsmart them a little - try to pick up an Arabic word or two - they will respect you for that and might just back off a little bit but do not underestimate them. Again show respect and you will get that in return. Hope this helped.

Take some immodium and rehydrate salts as many people (myself included) suffer severe stomach bugs. Apparently the main cause is the money (gets handled a lot and is quite dirty at times) take an antiseptic hand gel to clean your hands in between transactions. Luxor and the Valley of the Kings are amazing. Be careful not to get ripped off, we were constantly hassled for extra tips and money, they changed their prices after the bargain was struck many times, be confident and don't let them change your original agreement.

Is exotic, full of different smells specially their tea and spices, with the most amazing temples and piramids in the worlds...very hot during the summer, bring walking shoes, a cap and an adventurous attitude...I love it.
