Arequipa, Nasca, Ica are wonderful. If you want to see real nature, you just have to open your eyes. Peru has all types of clima, just the ice is missing. The Jungle is impressive, just like the Atacama Desert in the south. One very important thing. Whereever you are, ask the local people, they gonna show you the best places. and enjoy your time...

colca canyon is astounding, get there from arequipa, also highly recommend Huacachina, near Ica, Naszca is worth a visit, as well as Paracas and Las Islas de la Ballestas. near Lima is a nice place called Cinneguille. usually warm there.

If you drive from Ica to Nasca by car, you'll cross a small town called Palpa. There's a small but beautiful museum about the local history and the archaeological sites around Palpa. If you're lucky and interested you probably can visit one of the site, ask for Chichictara, Huaranga, Pingueral. I have been working at Chichictara for 5 weeks and there are a lot of petroglyphes (images carved in stone).

There r a lot of great places that r worth to see there, it depends what do u prefer. I would recommend Kuelap, which is similar to Machu Picchu (maybe in worse condition but still impresive) but not so known and it's harder to get there. Besides Chan Chan in Trujillo and going to selva - f.e. Puerto Maldonado. Lake Titicaca is also worth to go, for me watching the sky over the one of the island (Amantani) was unforgettable experience (similar like on the desert). If u like mountains u should go to Huaraz. Hope it will help u.

Huaraz was absolutely stunning. An 8 hour bus ride north from Lima it's surrounded by incredible mountains and is a great destination for hiking and mountain biking. There are also some great small villages and local markets to explore too.

just came back from a trip to Peru. I was working (volounteer), so didtn have to much time to travel. But we stayed a week in Contamana - and got to see the jungle (very nice junglewalk with hot springs - just about 1hour drive from the city. Just google "Jungle Contamana" and you will find a place called; Tambo Amazonico. We did it private with those we worked for, so Im not sure how the company is. But the jungle was great there. Its an hour fligt from Pucallpa or 6 hours by boat up the river (from Pucallpa). I was very disapointed when i got to Machu Picchu, but a day in the Sacred Valley was amazing! Learn some spanish - that will make it all easier! Enjoy - I'm going back later this year ;)

id definately recommend the nazca lines. if you can go to lake titicaca - do it - dont bother with staying too long in puno though -there isnt much to do there at all! - but if you can organise it, a couple of the islands allow travellers to stay on the islands with families. you have to book it in advance but its well worth it - definately one of the BEST things I did there!

I enjoyed Huacachina (near Ica) for the sandboarding. The Nazca lines were amazing and if you have time, then a flight up to Iquitos is worth it to visit the jungle/Amazon. I've also heard good things about the beach at Mancora, although I didn't get up there myself.

Colca Canyon to see condors, the Nazca Lines if you can afford to fly above them, Lake Titicaca to see reed islands, Kuelep in the north for some more remote ruins, and the Ballestas islands or Amazon for some wildlife...for starters!

Ariquipa - there you can climb large mountains as a hike, you can trek through one of the worlds deepest canyons, you can enjoy the easy life in the city centre - interesting museums and good balcony restaurants.

Puno (with the titicaca lake and 'los uros'), Arequipa (colca caƱon), Ica (sandboarding in Huacachina), Paracas (Islas ballestas), Lima,... And if you also have time to go north, I'd also recommend Trujillo (really modern town, with the world heritage chan chan, 'huaca de la luna',...), Cajamarca (lovely city in the mountains), Huaraz (with even snow!!) and of course all up north surrounded by the jungle, Iquitos!!!

Apart from all the tourist spots (Cusco - Machu Picchu, Arequipa - Colca Canion, Ica, Puno) you really need to go to Iquitos which is an amazing city in the heart of the jungle! Beautiful place, nice people and great variety of food! You can take a trip into the SELVA!
