Volunteer Park has Asian Art Museum and the Botanical Garden (it is small but still enjoyable break from Seattle). Another favorite museum is the Fry Art Museum.

For some great Italian food head to Palermo's at 350 E 15th on Capitol Hill. They're open from 11 to 11 and you can stay in Capitol Hill for the night life to avoid the typical "Big City" clubs that are downtown. You can also check out West Seattle for some awesome pubs and shops that won't be full of your average downtown tourists. If you are in West Seattle - stick to California Ave otherwise you'll get stuck on Alki Beach (lots of tourists because its the best sand in Seattle.)

Gordito's Burrittos, for burrittos!, Greenwood/Phinney Ridge
Sloop Tavern, then Ray's Boathouse, Shilshole
Golden Gardens for beach strolling.
Ballard Ave. for an evening out, good music. Also good farmers market there on Sunday mornings.
Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle Univ. on Capitol Hill, if you like modern architecture.

If you're downtown, near 4th and Spring, stop by the lobby early in the morning on a weekday. It's a Seattle's Best and it will give you a taste of the city because you can people watch. I stayed there three years ago. It's directly across the street from the public library, which is very impressive to look at.

I live on Vashon Island... take the Fauntleroy Ferry in West Seattle. Great biking and beaches, and we have a Farmer's Market on Saturday Mornings and Wednesday afternoons.

I use to live in Bremerton. You can take the ferry to Bremerton and its a small town with Navy Bases. IT seems things are far but not really. You can go to Silverdale. and Poulsbo which are nice communities. THE water front always has the usual eating places. Nice restaurant. BUt you'll need a car to get there.
