Some of the best bushwalks I've done are down on the Tasman Penninsula around Port Arthur. Nothing but endless ocean and steep cliffs and hardly any other walkers there. It's spectacular there, but pretty windy. I can also recommend the west coast - Henty Dunes, Montezuma falls and Ocean Beach at Strahan: nothing but ocean between the crazy surf and south america. Bottles wash up on the beach from all over the world.

You have to go to Wineglass Bay on Freycinet Peninsula. Also Bay of Fires in the North East is fabulous. Lake St. Claire has a beautiful roundwalk that takes a couple of hours. Have fun in Tassie! Its so different from the rest of Oz... =)

don;t judge the remainder of Australia on tasmania-it is so differnet and so cool - if you enjoy the great outdoors you will love Tasmania. The north of the island is also different from the sth and the east to the west is different

be prepared for cold weather. Unlike the rest of Australia, Tasmania is usually cool even in summer. Make sure you go to Port Arthur (for the ghost walk!) and Cradle Mountain. Launceston and the North West are also well worth the visit.

If you enjoy nature at all, get out and do one of the great walks. The "Overland Track" through Cradle Mountain is reknown worldwide as being one of the best multi-day hikes in the world. It is 65km long and most people do it in about 7 days.
