Hi there! I live on the West Coast and have many friends that go to Hawaii during the holidays. It's very popular however everybody has the same idea so be forewarned that it's VERY expensive. Have fun!

Honolulu is beautiful at Christmas. In downtown, since there are no pine-type trees, they wrap the tree trunks in Christmas lights. You might hear people say "mele Kalikimaka" -- this is the closest the Hawaiian language could get to pronouncing the words "merry Christmas." Waikiki has a vibrant nightlife all year round, Christmas too. Best part is, no winter! -- you'll be in the Ala Moana Mall, all decorated up, and all the Christmas shoppers in their shorts and t-shirts.

I've been to Honolulu twice for Christmas. It is thoroughly enjoyable with plenty to do. If you are looking to go to the beach though, know that Waikiki is LOADED with people. I only went there one day and my belongings such as my towel were surrounded by other people, literally lying right next to mine. If you are looking to avoid the crowd, there is a beach not too far that isn't really that busy at all called Ala Moana. I spent christmas day there one year, pretty empty for the most part. The other christmas I spent over at Ko Olina. It wasn't busy over there either.

I've been many times in Hawaii for Christmas, of course it's nice spending Christmas on beaches, but the best Christmas I've spent there were on Big Island, on Kilauea volcano, with lava flows instead of Christmas lights in the trees of Waikiki. I do recommend you !
