Has anybody ever been to Khon Kaen? What is it like?

Khon Kaen is strange, tehre are a few very western sites, cafees, only few farang and i did not really connect to the Thai community either, stayed only for 2 days; but nice fishing sites around Khon Kean...

The province of Khon Khaen is rural for the most part, but its capital city (also Khon Khaen) has grown quite large with may European style clubs and a couple of large shopping malls. It has a very modern hospital as well. The rural areas are nice, but tourists rarely go there.

It is off the average tourist route. That said, it offers a great deal that many have never experienced. Issan food and culture are something to enjoy. If you haven't decided how you are getting there, consider the train - fantastic views and no worries. Good journeys!
