In Baku there is a lot to see, but also make a trip to see the mudvolcanoes in Gobustan, go to see the petroglyphs and the fire temple of the zoroastrians. If you have time, go to the fire mountain (Yanar Dag).

If your staying inside the old city walls the Atropat hotel is nice and is very close to all amenities.

I lived in Baku for 2 years, the mountains are fantastic for hiking and camping, Baku has some wonderful pre Soviet buildings and great theaters for ballet, concerts etc.
