Any place that begins it's town brochure with a polemic against the war against Iraq can't be all bad.

Byron is a bit smaller place. It's got kind of a hippie, very relaxed feel about it. It has many very nice beaches, the nicest one are kind of hidden from the roads, but oh so gorgeous! What can I say, I've been there several times and I really like it.

..it's so expensive!

Just came back from Byron Bay and Surfer's Paradise. I prefere Byron. It's smaller but in my opinion the beaches are nice than the beach in Surfers. It's true that Byron is expensive, but Surfers is even more.

Been there, too touristic, but nice for 2-3 days. Caravan Parks very expensive and also very busy. Nice beaches, lots of surfers. Not a must for all travellers (my opinion). Have fun!

Generally a MUST for all travellers! If u're a backpacker or similar plan some days to stay there. remember there are a few hostels and caravan parks in the town which are ridiculously expensive! there is one caravanpark right before the entrance of the town which is the only one where u pay a normal price. A lot of backpackers with tents or campers stay there. All other places are totally ripped off..

Think its overrated personally. Very touristy, beaches are OK. Good if you surf.

If it's the touristy backpacker scene you're after then you've found the place. If you're not, steer clear in the summer months! Very laidback place. Great for surfing. Beautiful beaches. Plenty of cafes/cafe bars/bars etc.

Totally a must! Gorgeous beach, cape byron lighthouse, funky nightlife, markets. Get out to th hinterland as well if you can for places like Nimbin and Mt Warning.

Yes, I've been. Its a laid back beach town in Northern New South Wales. It has a really good backpacker vibe and a beautiful beach! In my opinion its a 'must' visit.
