I did the Inca Trail this year....and thorughly recommend it. The porters carry everything for you so you are just carrying yourself! ;)
Machu Picchu is a must see for everybody....make sure you go as you will for sure find it amazing!

Yeap.. probably the best trip of my life. I took the train from Cusco, it took me 6 hours to get there through wonderful landscape but I if you plan on going and have the energy and the time for it I suggest you follow the famous Inca trail. It will take you 4 days to get there but it will be an amazing experience :)

Yes it was amazing! get up there first thing in the morning like 6am to get on the list to go up to Hyuana Picchu - they only allow 300 up there a day now and it is worth the hike up there to be able to look down on Machu Picchu itself.

Yes, but it's a bit touristy and crowded... try to hike around Valle Sagrado on your own, or better yet, go to Tihuanacu in Bolivia for ruins older than the Incas!

If you go, make sure that you go early in the morning. It gets so crowded in the afternoon, that you have to go and visit something else. Also, when you are there in the morning, you still have a chance to climb the mountain just apposite Machu Pichu. This climb is very beautiful, but limited. You have to sign a register to make sure that you are not forgotten when you get lost, but also to make sure that not to manu people are on the mountain. I think that maximum 500 people may visit it on a daily bases. So if you are to late, you have to come back another time. Make sure that you're condition is up to it!!! But once on the top, you have a magnificent view on Machu Pichu, if there are not to much clouds.

yeppers. be wary of taking the backpacker train to aquas calientes. the price of the day trains is often less the the aggregate cost of over-nighting in the hamlet.
