Hotel Red Roof Inn has some large very nice rooms, free internet and pay-per-view TV system. It's located in Chinatown and you can easily go to the Mall from there by hopping on the Circulator buses. If you want to go to the White House, you can take the X2. Bus stop maps and directions you will receive at the reception desk. Great help, nice atmosphere.

Hi Katie, I stayed at a fairly inexpensive hote (By D.C. standards) recently. While it was not a hostel the price was good and it was a great experience. Hotel Washington The lobby and the bar are the highlights of this hotel - Both must be seen to be fully appreciated. The room was nicely decorated, although a bit small, comfortable and clean. This old hotel had an air of sophistication and charm that cannot be duplicated. The location is fantastic and unforgettable. Overall, a great and memorable place to stay.

There is a Holiday Inn in Alexandria off of the METRO line (I think Blue). Pretty cheap and about 25 minute commute to DC.
