Winnipeg isn't my favourite place, especially in te winter - like almost everyone has already mentioned it gets insanely cold. However, like someone also mentioned while it is cold it is almost alway sunny which makes being outside quite enjoyable if you are dressed for the weather. Exploring the parks, snowshoeing, tobogganing and hiking are always great make sure to visit the Fort Whyte center and for a great day inside to warm up don't miss the museum of Man and Nature

Winter is a great time to come. There's lots of things to do. Just come prepared for the weather. Just to clarify what to expect. Normally, between December and February, Winnipeg sees daytime temps of in the -15 to -20 C range (sometimes warmer, sometimes colder). Usually a couple times a winter, a real cold front moves in for a week or two and then it gets real bad. (We're talking -30 C during the day) The real wildcard is the wind. Strong north winds make it feel much colder than it really is.

The Winter is the best time to go, it may be cold, but there are some good festivals, and I think the city looks nicer in the winter. I recommend skating at the forks, and the festival du voyager. Don't let the cold scare you, pretty much anywhere in canada is cold around this time.

the going down to 40c is just the temp with out wind factor...that makes many days feel like -50! it is insane!! if you want to go in the winter, the downtown core is quiet at that point and you need lots and lots of warm layers as already mentioned.

Sure have, my best advice? If you have the option, DON'T go during the winter. It's deadly cold there (it IS the prairies). I lived in Saskatchewan & their winters are the same, deadly. If you have to go, take PLENTY of warm clothing.

Yes...and my advice is don't go during the winter if you can help it. It's beautiful during summer, but unless you're used to the bitterest of cold weather, it can be miserible. Good luck if you do have to go and plan to stay inside a lot.

Can be (will probably be) very cold but the good news is, it is very sunny. But the people are warm and friendly. I have been there twice in the winter. It is a dry cold so dress warmly and enjoy the "sun".

Yes, I used to live very close by. Can be very cold down to minus 40 C. Wear many layers of clothes (tshirt, shirt, sweater), including a gopod winter jacket, gloves, a wool touque or hat and Canadian winter boots. Dress for warm and not looking "good".
