A low-cost airlines are now flying from Luton to Kyiv, Zhuliany airport. (This airport is small and closer to the city centre)

khreshatic is a street full of boutiques and designer shops, so its a bit expensive, but it has beautiful architecture. globus, which is right under the khreshatic (easy access to/from city metro) offers some shoping and resteraunts too. the podol is an old jewish neighboorhood, and has beautiful old churches, and a street (mikhailovskaya spusk) selling souveneirs and old soviet antiques. the podol also offers easy access to the docks, where you could take a 1-2 hour tour of the city.

Try Club Avalon! very good and safe place to go to. For thing to do at day time: Hydropark. Just get yourself a 2 ghrifna subway ticket and go there. DONT EVER USE SUBWAY AT NIGHT!!! Take a cab, one that looks good. Negotiate about the price and give the guy a tip. Go outside the city for a day, check out the beatyfull country side. feel like living 100 years back in time but with a mobile phone. ;) Have fun

Hotels are overpriced and/or not that great. You can find a nice apartment right in the center for $60 or $70 per night easily. I won't shill for one company in particular, but they are easily found on the internet. Pirate taxis are common and safe. You can get anywhere in the city for $2 to $10, depending on your negotiating skills.
