Would recommend Ozi's Malindi instead, cheap but clean and good rooms. quieter than Mombasa

Holidays are nuts on the coast. While a lot of places in Mombassa are pretty full up, there are some more local places like the Lotus which should have space (except that it's in the middle of town) and Mombassa Backpackers north of town. Both are fairly inexpensive. If you're looking for something a bit more high end/all inclusive, south coast, i.e. Diani beach has a lot to offer, but the beachboys are worse than flies. If you're looking for a really chill, relaxing vacation, I HIGHLY recommend Lamu. It's a bit of a pain to get to, though a $200 return flight will serve you well, but there are some fantastic, and reasonably priced, places to stay, and the towns and beaches are GREAT.

The thing is that everyone (well most people) in Nairobi leave the city for the coasts of Mombasa and Malindi etc for the holidays. It is always best to book a while in Advance.

Try Malindi, to the northe of Mombasa or Diani Beach to the south. I would recommend Diani reef resort
