It depends on the travel deals we're getting.

I do some research in internet for places that I'm already interested in or to find something new.And try to save money for them. But if I don't have enough time or money,I just go to a country, that's close or cheap.

I go where the cheap flights are going ;) My friends had three destinations in mind, but had only time to visit one. They wrote the destinations on three seperated papers and did a little rafle! Malaysia was the winner! Great idea isn't it??

Hi Karma, Great question! Often books (like May K.) magazines, travel sites (like this one), sometimes movies, and other times friends. I always seek out good transportation deals, so this is an important influencing factor as well. Also, I often research a destination for weeks or even months before committing. It works for me! Good journeys!

Actually I read a lot and watch some documentaries or do research online what I am interested in.... Then I rather chose a direction like a route... for example Central America, Caribbean a South America... Or Pacific region... or Asia... I just try to connect the things I always wanted to see...So I save more money and time then just flying around...

Without seeng your profile is not easy to recommend.Check for example the "New seven wonders" Or reed a bit from "1000 places to visit before you die.."Or follow your interests.Niagara falls, lake Victoria, the Great Chines wall, the Pyramides or the lowest point on Earth(the dead sea)are just a few destinations. You can group them by interest in art and then you must visit Louvre in Paris,Prado in Madrid and the Hermitage in St.Petersbourg.Interested in animals?Safari in Africa and the Galapagos Islands. If it is your first big trip take an Europass for one month(I took it for two)and just travel wherever the train takes you. This kind of trip will show you at the end of it what you liked most and what are you interested in.Your next trip will be much more specific.

I would prefer to visit destinations where I can see how development has progressed over the years. Generally, these would be up and coming cities in countries where tourism is beginning to take a hold. Of course, there are the well established countries for tourism, such as France and Spain, which should definitely be on any world traveler's list. For me there are many destinations in Asia like Bangkok and Singapore where you can see major changes happening in a matter of years, from new buildings to more transport options getting from the airport to the city and further onward. Of course, reading travel guide books and watching travel shows is one of the best ways to learn more about a potential destination. In the case of Bhutan, you have a beautiful country which in my opinion will be spared from a lot of development, which will make its quaintness a compelling reason to visit the place. Being able to go to destinations like this is almost like a walk back in time. It is also nice to visit a destination after many years to find that it has not been overrun by too many tourists, and has managed to preserve its culture despite all the modernization happening all around.

for me its all about the things that can be seen / done there that are completely diff from where i live. i also seem to prefer places that have both ocean and ruins of some kind. i dont live anywhere near an ocean, so i love being by it whenever i can. plus i love all things ancient. in march my hubby & i are heading to egypt for obviously the pyramids, desert, camels, mummies, egyptian history, and deep sea fishing in the Red Sea :)

Books usually ignite my curiosity about a country and its culture. Then I start my research to know when to go, what should I visit and do there.

Depends a lot on the time of year, and how much money I have to spend! Usually I read something interesting about a place which leads me to do a little research on the place and that's all it takes to make it my next destination! (as long as money and time are available!)

I take a look in mags (nat geo). I'll check websites for more information about a country. Things you can do and all that. And if i'm sure about my destination I'll check the prices. And if it is too expensive i search for another destination.
