How would you spend a one way ticket to Munich this Sept? (Besides Oktoberfest, been there the last 5 years) I need some new travel ideas and I intend to return to the States.

The area around Munich is really nice. I do like the town Regensburg. Also, as mentioned below, the Alpes are nice.

Munich is a great city. If you are planning on visiting Lake Ammersee, Neuschwanstein, or Starnberg you'll either need a car or take public transport all the way (I know there's a train to Starnberg, not sure about the rest) and that might not be what you want. Marienplatz is great for shopping, Munich also has great museums, there's also Nymphenburg Palace and the Englischer Garten if your interests are more like relaxed sight seeing. There are also tourbuses in Munich if you just want a quick overview.

Monestery Andechs is also good for a visit, good beer more quiet than the "Oktoberfest" and the surrounding is also great Lake Ammersee etc.

If you're into castles, Neuschwanstein is just a day trip away. Never been myself, but I'd check it out if I got the chance, supposed to be amazing.

Hi Matt, If you plan to stay in Munich, I would suggest that you enjoy the Marienplatz. the Residence Palice of Munich, maybe one or two of the great museums, and spend an informative and sobering afternoon at the concentration camp of Dachau. I also think you could easily spend a day exploring the Starnberg Lake area - beautiful, with lots of palaces. Of course with the great rail system you also have easy access to almost anywhere you would like to go in Europe. Enjoy! Good Journeys!
