Japan is worth the long journey. Especially if you go outside Tokyo, or even to other islands. But Tokyo is exciting -- don't miss Harajuku!

Japan is amazing! Definitively worth your time! I was there for 3 months and still didn't see everything that I wanted to see. I spent most of my time around the Kansai region, but I'm glad I did visit other places like, Tokyo and Hiroshima. I would suggest go around when the cherry blossoms bloom, it is very beautiful!

Absolutely. I lived there for 3 years and traveled extensively throughout. Don't be put off by claims that it's the most expensive country in the world. It's not. If you're planning on relocating permanently, then it might be a tad pricey - depending on where you want to relocate to. But for traveling purposes, heaps of places will give special rates to tourists. And be sure to get a JR Rail Pass if you go!! Unlimited use of any/all trains in the country, including the bullet trains!!

I have been to Japan twice (once for 2 weeks and once for a month)...it was awesome. I love all the places I have visited in the world, but Japan is my favorite so far. The people are so nice, the culture is awesome (and funny sometimes), and the scenery is beautiful (both hardscape city and natural rural). Tokyo is a great city with so many options to go to (nightlife, family/kiddy, transit). The Kansai area is pretty, very cultural, much more relaxed. The Fukuoka area is very scenic, the bluffs/mountains just roll on forever, and some nice onsen in Beppu/Oita.

Totally worth it man. I'd recommend Nara the most actually. Kyoto might have the best temples, and Tokyo is the biggest city, but Nara has some very impressive shrines too, one of the daibutsus (giant Buddhas), and tame deer that wander around the city and can be pet and fed by hand.

definitely. but don`t stay in tokyo allthetime. visit nikko, oosaka, kyoto, hiroshima and fukuoka. its cheap to go by night bus/hi-way bus (tokyo - osaka starting from 4000) and if you go to fukuoka you can take a cheap ferry to busan in south korea (just 3 hours :)

The people are great and very interested in trying to help. Great place to hitchhike across. The flight is long but you can make up for it by staying in Asia and seeing other countries after Japan.

for me two weeks was too short. if you go to Kyoto / Osaka, then consider staying overnight in a temple at Koyasan, azttend the morning ceremony and visit the Okunoin cemetary. it was the best part of my visit to Japan. :-)

I'll have to disagree ;) If you're into Japanm go to Kansai region instead. Here you'll have much more than in Tokyo - you can go to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Kobe and more. Much more to see, a bit cheaper than in Tokyo and definetely not as 'unpretty' as Japan's capital.

YES! It is one of my favourit countries! The culture is very unique. Tokyo alone I could spend days there. Kanazawa is a nice place in the north that is more of a vacation destination for Japanese, it is beautiful.
