Iceland Questions

Question asked in : Iceland - 2 years ago

I am hoping to return to Iceland in 2012. What is the best time of the year to go, weatherwise? Our last visit was the end of June and into July and it was cold and rainy almost all of the time.

I was there in feb and had some beautiful weather- lots of snow but crisp winter days, not bitterly cold. There's also the northern lights if your lucky enough to see them and being in the blue lagoon while theres snow all around is something else! i think its a totally different perspective. i'm hoping to go back in summer to see it green!

The weather is pretty unpredicatable. We had a little snow few days ago but today (20th of May) was a nice weather. Just pack clothest suitable for all kind of weather. The superstition says the raincoat is a must (so it won't rain!). But June, July and August are the warmest months (but most people don't call it hot). There is the midnight sun in June and the daylight stays 24 hours around 23rd of June. If you go hiking, don't just bring jeans and T-shirt (bring warm clothes too).

welll definately NOT when there is a volcano errupting, but i went in mid April in the middle of spring, and it was beautiful, there was still snow and it still got dark at night times. i think the end of april would be a good time to visit, right in the middle of spring!

Well this is a tricky question. There are many thing´s to consider when traveling in Iceland and trying to find good weather. July and august are the warmest months in Iceland but that does not mean that they are particular warm but the temp can bee between 10-25°c. But it is also very important to chose location according to the forecast, because when the wind is blowing from north or east you should travel around the south and west part of the land, but if the wind is blowing from the west and south the north east corner is the place to go to.
