If you're heading down to Peru, check out the Markawasi Stone Forest, amazingly beautiful, mystical and great trekking!

Book a trip in Quito. You head for Lago Agrio, from there you go travel one day more to get deep into the jungle. You have several options to sleep, from cheep to luxery. Most importent is that you will get to see everything. From different, monkeys, snakes, alligators, birds, piranha fishing, dolphins etc. Sorry, I forgot the english names. You can go by bus to Lago Agrio, saves you about 100 dollars instead off going by plane, and still going deep into the jungle. Enjoy!

You have two options: book something at an agency in Quito or, if you're more adventurous, go to Tena and ask someone with a canoo to take you to a lodge. Along the Rio Napo there are a few lodges. My recommendation would be to browse the Jungle Lodge section of a travel guide and select a view travel agencies there. We went through Ecoandes travel. The lodge wasn't cheap, but being further away from Tena you see more jungle.

Cuenca is probably the most beautiful city in Ecuador, very historical and clean. Banos is worth visiting, too, it's in a deep valley surrounded by steep green mountains. I really enjoyed a hike on the north face of Cotopaxi. If you are in Quito you should visit the equatorial monument. It's not far and it's cool to stand right on the equator. The Galapagos are said to be the most beautiful place in South America. It's an expensive trip though. One week is about $1500.

One of the possible ways to go to the Amazon in Ecuador is from Puyo (southeast, near Banos). If you're looking for an authentic place, you can look for the Cabanas Nanambiiki on internet. But as it's not that popular, it should be funnier if you bring friends with you! (and I don't think they speak english, so it depends if you feel comfortable with spanish too...). Otherwise, you can find plenty of tours in Banos. Have a nice journey!
