Your kids will love Amsterdam. The Anne Frank Museum is appropriate for all of them - and I would have the older kids (10 & 15) read the Diary of Anne Frank first. The Van Gogh Museum is also a winner - but buy your tickets online in advance so you can skip the lines. They offer a great museum scavenger hunt that will probably entertain everyone except your 15 year old. Have fun!

See Utrecht, an older city with a lovely old city centre. Also do a boat tour through rotterdam, the more "city like city" of the Netherlands, or go up the Euromast, a 180 metres high tower. If you are going for a day on the beach go to Zeeland (south-west province, islands) and not to the coast of the main land, Zeeland has a beautiful coast line.

leiden (leyden) is a lovely, historical city, not too far from amsterdam. old houses, canals, little boats. from there it's easy to get to the beach of Katwijk and Keukenhof (tulips, flowers, amazing gardens) and den haag (the hague)

Den Bosch is great, check out the cathedral and the old river under the city (you can take a boat tour). Also don't miss the fortifications and sitting on a terrace.

I hope you go in April! If you do, you MUST go to Keukenhof, near Lisse! The flowers are amazing! I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life! It can get quite busy on nice days, so try to get there early. We spent the whole day there. At the time, we had 2 year old son. http://www.keukenhof.nl/nm/english.html

In Den Haag [The Hague] is a place called Madurodam that has minitures/models of places from around the Netherlands. In Tilburg is an large theme park with storybook characters and rides. Be careful of Amsterdam. It is a very interesting city, but there are parts that you don't want to stumble into with your kids. You probably don't want them to see the sex [toy] shops, [special] smoking cafes, shops of drug equipment, and the windows with very friendly ladies. Even the post cards in this section of town are racey. However, if you plan well, Amsterdam can be a nice place for the entire family.

Nijmegen indeed, but also Maastricht, Breda, Den Bosch, Utrecht. These are some smaller cities than for exemple Amsterdam, but still worth visiting. Fun amusementparks for children are de Efteling (www.efteling.nl), Walibi World (www.walibi.nl).

I'd say Nijmegen is a great city to go with your family. It's a very friendly city on the south-eastern border with lots of nearby attractions. It's just over an hour by train from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, and it's also right next to the German border, which provides more opportunities for days out.
