Depends on how many days you have for your vacation. If you can really go around, then China or India would be good for exploring. If you have only a few days and want an instant blast of the Asian experience then go to Thailand. If you have the cash, go to Tokyo or Seoul. If you like diving go to the Philippines. The most diverse coral creatures are there. If you like war history, go to Vietnam and try the WWII tunnels. You know...if you really must go to Asia..please go to more than one country =)

I would say India. There is great diversity in scenery and cultures, from the tropical south to the deserts of Rajasthan and up into the Buddhist Tibetan/Nepalese areas around the Himalayas. As much as I adore Mongolia and southeast Asia, I would have to say that India is still the must see stop in Asia. I have not travelled China or Indonesia extensively yet, but I expect those would rank high as well.

I'll say Taiwan, too. They still use the "traditional" style characters (as opposed to Mao's "simplified" ones), and have never adopted pinyin. They still have those narrow, winding alleys where you can find homes and even shops not visible from the street. Get out away from downtown Taipei to see the real life of the country (I actually lived in Hsinchu for awhile -- I know a great fried rice place back in an alley). And if you have time for a train trip go out to Tailuko (Taroko) Gorge -- a spectacular canyon of natural marble, with Taiwan's only hot spring still in its natural state. Also, you'll want to visit at least one traditional temple, which shouldn't be too hard, since they are everywhere.

Indonesia,if you have apprx. 1 month to travel. It has diversity of nature & culture in every islands. First you may wish explore Java island by visiting Yogyakarta to see Borobudur & Prambanan Temples, then Mountain Bromo in East Java. Later on go to Bali to enjoy white beach in Nusa Dua or Uluwatu areas or lava beach in Lovina or beautiful rice filed in Ubud & of course, pls dont miss the beauty of Hindu temples in Bali & their unique cultural events that may take place every month, then take a boat to Komodo island to see Komodo dragon, the world's largest living lizard, then fly to Lombok or Bunaken or Raja Ampat for diving if you like to dive.

Go to India. India is different from everything else. The way of thinking is so different, that you can get a real cultur shok. Its smells different, its sounds different and its feels different. India is a travel country for every budget. You can stay in Maharja Palace Hotels where you spend 250$ for a night or you stay in place for 6 Rupies. In India you find everything and it is a challenge to understand a little bit of its cultur.

India off course..fabulous place, friendly people. Each place in india is so different regarding culture, food, sights etc. Cities are crazier than down by the beach, though its a great experience.Train journeys are a brilliant way to see the country and a ride you'll never forget.
