I went in March 2007, I stayed with family in Arecibo and the beaches were practically deserted, and are apparently like that all year round. As for places to visit, the National Telescope is always really interesting.

Stay at the Westin Rio Mar Hotel. Gorgeous! Great beach. Be sure to tour Old San Juan. Expect the airport to be slow.

Head to some of the southern towns and into the mountain if you ahve time. Streets are windy in the mountains and cars stop to pick up and drop off people- very Caribbean- while stopping traffic!

went in Jan of last year. go snorkeling on a charter in Fajardo - easy to book but book in advance. go to old san juan. its a neat place to visit. Go eat at a dive called I think la hamburguesa or something like that. its on the way to old san juan on the side of the road across from the beach. burgers an beer a neat place to go.
