if you want to go to the top of the Reichstag building - make a reservation at the restaurant up there. Then you don't have to wait in line at the front entrance forever - you get to go in through another door and get upstairs fast and still enjoy everything. I loved it up there. Oh, and see if you can't get a "window seat"! :)

I haven't been to Berlin, but I have heard it is amazing! I was in Munich last July. Overall, the weather is strange, some days it is really humid, others a bit cool and others really warm. This won't interfere with your trip, you will love it. Enjoy a beer and a walk at the English Gardens!

In Berlin, please check out Unter den Linden - the Linden Booulevard. I just love Madame Tussaud's there. In Munich, go to the Toy Museum on Marienplatz, and climb the Old Peter Tower - in order to get amazing view - all the way up to the Alps!

I'm in Berlin right now, it's huge! Buy a tourist underground ticket which is valid for 3 days (you can use the subway, S-bhan, bus and get discounts for musea). Get yourself a detailed map and explore! A nice place is the Bergmannstrasse, in Kreuzberg. Lots of small arty-shops with selfmade clothes, secondhand stores, coffee-bars, fancy shops etc. There are also many places "hidden" behind the regular shopping streets. Whenever you see the word "hof" standing on a door/gate/store there's a huge place behind it with little shops. Berlin in summer should be quite amazing, because there are almost everywhere little markets going on. People live pretty much outside. Things you have to see when you are interested in tourist things: Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburger Tor, the Wall left-overs, Jewish Museum. Those things are mostly in Berlin Mitte. Another great thing is to explore "Berlin Undeground". Underneath the city there are hundreds of bunkers hidden. With a guided tour of something like 2 hours for 14 euro's they show you everything! Well...there's a lot more, but this should get you started! Enjoy :-)

Munich is great... everyone visit's the Hofbrauhaus which is the done thing in Munich!... if you have time it's worth taking a day trip to Neuschwanstein castle just over the border in Austria!... The English Gardens are also worth a wander but they are just that, gardens, and you have to watch out for dogs off leads!

In Berlin I've been in the A&O near the Zoologischer Garten. It is clean and cheap, but due to its localization, from my room I could listan all night long the announcements from the train station!

First, if you don't have a good travel book, check out the books by DK called Eye Witness travel. I have tried a few different books, and they are very good. If you have a chance, you can get a all-bavaria rail pass for about 30 Euro and go anywhere in the state. A little less than an hour south is the Zugspitz or if you are into history, there is the Eagle's Nest. I think no matter where you go, you won't be disappointed.

Lived in Munich for many many years. As someone else suggested, hit the beer gardens at the English Garden, maybe checkout the Deutsches Museum but most important is to buy a Bayern Ticket and take the train to Füssen to see the beautiful alps, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. If you stay there overnight you can go see König Ludwig musical as the theatre on the Lake...absolutely beautiful. Enjoy your trip!

hey! i live in berlin since i was born. its a great city for sure! july is a good time to go there. i dont really know if this summer's going to be hot, but i just love berlin in summer. we have the river "spree" going through berlin. you gotta see it ! if you get out at "hauptbahnhof" in berlin mittte you can walk around in our government corner. there are all these buildings "reichstag" and where the government stays. you can ask someone, how you can get to potsdamer platz from there. on the way you see the jewish thing with the stones. potsdamer platz is also a nice place for shopping and a cup of tea at starbucks. if you want to do more shopping go to the "ku(rfürsten)damm" (we just call it Kudamm!) its a huuuuge long shopping street..with nearly every shop you want to find. a must see is also the "KaDeWe" on the Kudamm, which is a big "shopping mall" like Harrods is. Like someone else wrote, the "Bergmannstr." is a great place to visit. At Potsdamer Platz in the Sony-Center you also can watch a english movie in english. At "Alexanderplatz" you can visit the Big "Alexanderturm", which is a national sign of berlin... if you want to go clubbing in the evening, check out "Week12End" at Alexanderplatz which is in a smaller skyscraper but still over all buildings in berlin. nice club and view of berlin as well!!! or watergate at warschauerstraße, which is from 21 but a nice club at the water with a terrace and stuff. "Berliners" know to party! :) Hope you have fun! munich is also a nice town, but berlin is much cooler in my point of view..! ick bin ein berliner greets!

Berlin is said to be very interesting, with lots of historical buildings, but I cannot confirm it, as I've never been there. Munich has nice spots, and is great for beer. In july all the Beer-gardens should be open, so if the weather allows it, you can enjoy a good glass outside. The English Gardens are definitely worth a visit, also some of the many museums in the town. In the town center, you have, among others, the Town hall, and the Hofbrauhaus as known spots, as well as various churches. You can wait for the musical show of the Town hall's clock, if you want, but bring ear-plugs. The clock is completely out of tune, in my opinion! Nymphenburg, and the neighbouring botanical gardens, as well as the Residenz and the nearby Odeonsplatz are also worth the visit.

i was in Berlin last week and i went to Munich 5 years ago, if you manage it i would see if you can see a beerfesival whilst in Munich- i know tollwood is sometime in the summer, and from what i gather there seems to be an almost constant beer festival throughout the summer in Munich and the surrounding areas. As for Berlin, go up the fernseheturm as the sights are amazing, and if you can, try to go to the restaurant and have a coke or something, as it rotates and is pretty amazing- you can see all of berlin on a good day and most of it on a bad day! also try the DDR museum, its a hands on museum about what life was like in Eastern Germany, and if you go to the fernsehturm first you can also get 20% off. Try to get to checkpoint charlie as well, as that is an interesting site, about 500m away from it is the tpopography of terror, which is a must see if you are interested in german history, also you can do tours to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Hope that helps a bit

Go to some of the beer halls. The best is Hofbrauhaus. There's also the one where Hitler staged his coup - Beer Hall Putsch. This site has some info: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/germany/0224021093.html

Absolutely loved both cities when I went two years ago. I won't write about every place you should visit, but I will offer one tip. In both cities they offer a free city walking tour (they say free because you decide how much you want to pay at the end, or you can decide not to pay at all). The website where you can find out start times, meeting points, and where the tours go is http://www.newberlintours.com/nbt/ (for Berlin) and http://www.newmunich.com/tours/ (for Munich) I found the tours were great because you got to see the whole city and learn a lot about its history, and then new your way around so that you could go back and visit places you'd like to see in more detail. A great way to get your bearings! I would also suggest visiting Sachenhausen outside of Berlin. It was one of the earliest concentration camps and it was very well preserved. It was a very sobering experience. I hope you enjoy your trip!
