Start with doing the "Golden Circle", a daytrip which brings you to all the most famous places in Inceland. Or rent a car and drive around the country on your own. And for sure, Reykjavik is always also a good place to be.

Coming from an Icelander: Blue Lagoon is perfect if you don't mind it being a tourist trap but plz visit some of the local swimming pools (e.g. in Reykjavík) because those are really cozy! And Reykjavík is a very nice base, especially if you only have a few days, to travel from. Golden Circle is great and going up north, to Akureyri and Mývatn is awesome (but only if you have time). Check out www.inspiredbyiceland.com for tips and check out the webcam! :o)

Interesting that people are recommending Reykjavik. Of course it is a good starting place, but the place itself is quite boring. If you're going to Iceland I presume you are not going there to see cities. Funny that someone actually recommends to see the nature. That should be your main reason to go there in the first place. Go to Landmannalaugar and have a nice hike, stunning geology and geomorphology there.

Make sure you experience Reykjavík on a Saturday night! Golden triangle is a must and as far as things to eat are concerned...whale, puffin, sheep head, horse and rotten shark with the local schnapps.

Golden Circle (google for more info)-a day trip; Blue lagoon -2-3 hours trip; Reykjavik nightclubbing (Austur is a must); depends how much time you have, you could go around Iceland in 6 days. Swimming pools are great with hot tubs and cheap. Enjoy !

close to Reykjavik you shall participate to the tour of the "golden circle", where you can see the geysir, the most ancient parliament in the world and the goldfoss (waterfalls: 300m^3 H2O per sec!!!!) and then of course you shall have a bath at the blue lagoon!! Either in Reykjavik or in Akureiri you can also go for whale watching and to the puffin colonies!! beautiful experience!!!!

The Blue Lagoon is great. It's very relaxing after any day of travel. Like a mini spa in a pool, the sand is an exfoliation scrub and the water is super warm. Just sit back and relax.
