Your going to a wonderful place indeed ! :) Yogyakarta is quiet an untouched place and not v.touristy.. so ur in for a wonderful holiday! If you plan to be in yogyakarta for just 2 days, would reccomend you stay at manohara (borobudur campus).. the rooms are average.. but the resort is beautiful...! U must go for the 3am Borobudur sunrise tour..its an awesome experience! While you will get a glimpse of some active and inactive volcanoes from Borobudur... would reccomend you also visit Kaliurang to get a close view of the volcano mount merapi.. on a clear day you may also get to see volcano smoking ;)!

Don't go to the Water Palace, there is no water, only houses, and there is no palace, only some poor mainained runis. Otherwise bird market is ok, sultan's palace, and there's an Arts Center near Malioboro Street that has batik. I was talking to some people on the street and they told me that the cheapest place to buy batik is from the Arts Center, all others buy from there and sell more expensive. it's like a batik mafia over there. If people want to take you for a ride in their bikes just say "Tida, jalan jalan, terimah kasih", read phoneticaly "tida, jealan jealan, trimacasi" which translates to "no, i'm walking on foot, thank you"

Stroll on jl. Malioboro, visit the Kraton Palace, where you can get a tour. You should also check out the water palace, which pretty hidden in the old centre. Be careful you don't ripped off by "helpful" boys, who show you the way. You only have to buy a ticket at the entrance.

Go to Tamansari, it's in the city itself, it's quite an interesting site which used to be the recreational palace for the Sultan. If you're the more adventurous type, go hike the Mount Merapi. Experienced local guides at 100k Rupiah, about 10usd. Or you can opt to go to Prambanan temple too.

Go to the Via Via café. They've got accomodation, great food, live music and offer small unknown tours. Book the Bicycle village trip. It's only a few euro's/dollars/kwid and well, well worth it.
