You should stop by in Pisa and Florence, Verona is also a great city to visit. In Pisa I did found some of the best restaurants, just ask where locals like to go.

Both Florence and Pisa are a must see, but they both will be swamped with tourists in July. Never the less you can't visit the area and not see the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Visit a small town near Siena called Montalcino and drink brunello.

San Gimignano, Lucca and Siena are my favorites. Florence is a good starting point to explore the neighbourhood. If you have time, Vinci, Leonardo's hometown is worth a visit.

Also check out Lucca. It's a small walled city and has a beautiful tower around the middle with a garden on the top which you can walk up.
