I did spend a week alone in Istanbul and traveled to Ephesus for the day. I enjoyed the experience 500%. The personnel in the hotel showered me with good advise and treated me like a relative... Don't hesitate for a second to do the trip.

I just toured Turkey alone for 12 days and had a fantastic time! It helps to know even a few turkish words, and be very wary of Taxis. Take the Metro - it's very easy; and take shuttles between the airport and your hotel - it will be much cheaper!

Yes of course. However, do not leave in little attended districts. In your hotel, perhaps you will meet other ladies which will be able to accompany you. Place your money at several places on your body. In Large Bazaar, respect the local habits. You interest in an object only if you want l' to buy and haggle over. The hotels close to the sea are superb, luxurious…. and expensive. There is other town halls which are very well. Good travel. Alain.

no problem. Istanbul is used to tourists and fashion for girls is just the same as in other countries. But in general I recommend to dress more conservative. Cover shoulders and knees, no deep clevage, and you will have to cover your hair if you want to visit a mosque.

sure no worries. you just have to be careful after 1-2 am in places like Beyoglu where sometimes you might run across drunk people. also small suburbs can be dangerous late at night.

If you'll stay in Istanbul only, you'll see no problem. They are western-minded there (not strict muslims as in Asian part in Central Turkey), but be prepared to receive a lot of attention! =)
