It's easy to say you'd be asking a lot to do such a journey, however it is been a popular choice for sport's fan's wanting enough time to travel on the train to eat out in a restaurant or pub and to see a game or football or rugby.

So, my brother, boyfriend and I are staying two nights and one day in Swansea, Wales. Hostelworld.com only comes up with two places for lodging... do you have any other suggestions on where to stay in Swansea?
Also, since we only have one full day, how to suggest we spend it? Was is reasonable to get to? Any specific restaurants and/or attractions to hit up??
Thanks,
Jackie

If you want to take the train from London to Swansea, you can get it at the lowest 12 pound or so one way. It depends on the day you go though, somtimes it will be more than that.(Go to the national rail website and pick cheapest fare finder http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/s/farefinder/search?) If you are not set on going on the train or to Swansea, National Express has a fantastic deal that you can go on a National Express coach from London to Cardiff one way for only 1 pound if you book a little while in advance. But even if you do not book far enough in advance it is only about 4 pound which is still fantastic.
In regards to the Jack the Ripper tour, I have never been, but it is 7 pounds per person and lasts about 1h 45min starting at 7pm.

Hope this helps! :)

How much does the train cost between London and Swansea, Wales?
Also, my brother and I have been talking about doing the Jack the Ripper tour...how much does that cost per person, and how long does it last?
Thanks, ladies!

If you are going by train - first great western goes from London Paddington to Swansea, Wales. Also you can get a National Express bus into Swansea as well. They go right to the airport if that is of any help at all. I am sure there are other routes, but these ones are the ones that I have taken personally.

You can certainly get from London to Wales and back in a day. However, depending on what you want to do in Wales, it will be a pretty tight timetable. I am currently living in Swansea, and I would certainly recommend going down to the Gower peninsula to see Rhossili and 3 cliffs bay, not to mention the countless wild horses you will see along the way. It will take several hours to get both ways but it will be worth it. I would recommend trying to stay a night though to really enjoy it.

You have a lot on your plate, but as long as you're happy that's all that matters! :) Wales really is gorgeous. Snowdonia is one of my favorite places, and for a girl who comes from Canada with very little "visible" history, being in a place where there's a castle at every turn was unreal! The first castle I saw in the UK was Caernarfon, where Charles was crowned Prince of Wales and it was incredible!
I did a Jack the Ripper walk the first time I was in London. I thought it would be really cheesy, but it was amazing how much the guides knew! It was a lot of fun and you'll learn a lot. :)

I'm taking a trip to England and Scotland in July. The tour takes 10 days, but I'll have two days beforehand and four days afterward to spend time with my brother who will be studying in Brighton, England. I know France is just a ferry ride away, but I'd also like to knock out a bit of Wales while I'm there, too, if possible.
The main reason for the trip is to visit my brother, but my boyfriend is joining too and he's never been to England or Scotland - I've never been to Scotland. When my boyfriend found out how close France was to Brighton, his eyes lit up. So, we're going to try really hard to get to France, too. I, personally, would just like to take a day (or 2, at most) to get to Wales, since I've never been. Just a little worried that 16 days for 4 countries might be a little short -- especially when I need to fit in quality time to spend with my brother.
Any suggestions? (BTW, we're planning on doing the Jack the Ripper tour, has anyone does that tour before?)

If you want to go to Wales just to say you've been there, yes, it's possible. If there's something specific that you want to check out or if you want to spend any amount of time there at all, it'll be difficult for you to get from London to Wales and back in a day. It really comes down to what you plan on doing, and how tired you don't mind getting :)

Yes, I did it before. We drove from London in the morning, even visited Stonehenge & Bath before reaching Cardiff, and returned to London the same night!

I think you could do it, but it would be a lot of time on a train/bus for very little time in Wales. Cardiff is probably the closest place in Wales to reach from London, but really if you could spend more than I day in Wales you won't regret it! I spent close to a week in Northern Wales when I lived in England, and I'd go back in a heartbeat! When are you planning to be there?? :)
