We were 3 ladies in Guatemala 1,5 years ago and didn't encounter any problems. We had our route well mapped out and were able to take advantage of tourist shuttles in most cases. It certainly helps if you speak Spanish, too! The worst we ran into was a scalping shuttle agent in Rio Dulce... he tried to cheat us and the driver by packing us off to Copán, Honduras when we had paid to go through to Antigua ... crisis averted in the end nonetheless and all parties got what they wanted (minus the agent). Just be careful and have your wits about you at all times.

Be safe, and travel on the buses or private shuttles. Never travel at night, and have a good sense of goodness around. just be safe with like any other area of the world. Guatemala city is recomended not a place to visit. There was alot happening when we were down there. Other than that, i think you should be fine.

I have seen many female travelers in guatemala, most of the cases, they are fine, but you never know. Especially at this time the credit crunch started hitting Guatemala. Crime rate is rocketing up. Heard lots of foreigners got mugged, kidnapped and threatened. I don't say "never" but be careful. If you meet nice group of other travelers to keep company, that'll be great.

I would say yes it is safe, is spent 2 months in central america and met many female travelers, many of who were by themselves or in pairs. There are very few hostels so all the backpackers end up at the same place so you will very rarely be traveling as just two girls. Also looking at where you have already traveled to Guatamala should be no problem!

No !! HIGH RISK of getting robbed or raped even murdered. Looking at your picture you will atract these people, ( young, female, nice looking) been in Tikal and Flores in 2006, it is dangerous

No. It is best to be accompanied by a male or two, particularly those who are tall and strong. There are drug guerillas who will kidnap young women without hesitation.
