I just returned from a volunteer project in Ghana and I felt absolutly safe. I walked the streets alone and had no problems what so ever. It all depends on the place you go. The north is probably less safe than the south, but you should always be vigilant. Just use your common sense. People I know have said Ghana is much safer than America.

i thought it was very safe, maybe not in the capital Accra... you will get lots of attention and everybody is calling you on the street, but that's about it. they just want to talk to you, marry you, but you can just talk to them and show them a ring and tell them you're already married, taht helps. It's mostly fun what they're talking about. Really nice and helpfull people!!

I've lived in Ghana for 8 years as an expact. It is by far one of the safest places I've ever been to. The people there are very friendly. As Nicole stated, the north is less safe than the south. It all depends on where you are going to in Ghana. When in doubt, take a friend a long.
