Looks like I'm going to spend a couple days in Johannesburg, South Africa right before new years....any recommendations for killing time?

Dinner and enterntainmany at Moyo restaurant in Marble Arch. Sure to be a great evening!

Montecasino is one of the crazier places to spend a night or rainy day. It is a complete remake of an Italian city it even looks like it from the outside, stone wall included (but of course it is very south african :-). Great in Johburg is also a visit to one of the old mines. Another thing I enjoyed there was visiting the former zulu-hostels(with guide).

Do a tour of Soweto - ask for tours/guides at your hotel. Go to the Lion Park to play with the lion cubs For great Italian food, Osteria Tre Nonni (Craighall Park) or fantastic steaks at Wombles (Parktown North).

The cradle of humankind area outside the city to the west is worth a visit. Go to the Rhino and Lion Park. A great place to stay is right next door. Kenjara Lodge.

Go to one of the lion parks that lets you play with the baby lions. Once in a lifetime experience. This one was lovely: www.rhinolion.co.za

Visit the safari park. they have awesome animals especially the lions. That will take up some of your time. I loved it!

Go to the lion park (www.lion-park.com) and play with the lion and tiger cubs!

Thanks Angelica. Unfortunately, I've experienced some delays in my travel, so it looks like mostly I will be spend New Year's Eve and a nice part of the 1st. I will definitely do what I can of your suggestions, though. Thanks :)

'killing time'? Ehh, just walk around with a white t-shirt or banner saying 'I hate niggers' (remember Die Hard?)

Go climb Table Mountain. Go to Clifton Beach #4. You can also do the Great white shark tour, they'll take you down on a cage to see them, i mean if you want thrill. For drinks go to long street, plenty of bars, cafe's and restaurants. If you have time, do a 3 day safari at Kruger park, near Johannesburg, well about 5hrs.
