I have been to perth twice now as i have relatives that live there. Monkey Mia is a must and Rottnest Island. There is minute kangaroo like creatures there called Quokas!!! So Cute! we were able to interact with the dolphins at Monkey Mia which was incredible and most enjoyable. There is a dolphin watching centre in Bunbury where u can do exactly the same as u can do in Monkey Mia! We drove all the way up there when we could of just drove down to Bunbury and done the same there. Jurien bay, Kalbarri, the pinaccles are fantastic 2! The list is endless hope you have a luvly time as most people fail to understand just how big it actually is. Europe would fit into it 7 times!!!

Hardly anyone has mentioned Western Australia. My time spent there was amazing!! It is far less touristy if that's what you're after. The great southern region of WA is especially pretty. But yes Australia is a massive, beautiful country. I hope you enjoy your stay no matter where you go.

Hobart is an amazing place as is most of the surrounding towns. I would recommend Cradle Mountain National Park, Ross, Port Arthur and Richmond (all in Tasmania.)

my tip would be to watch out if you do not want to spend all your days on the road, to stay around the place where you land as they are many things to see and enjoy everywhere in australia!

Be sure to visit an ecolodge. Choose one depending on your tastes (land or water) and location. Here are some tips... http://www.infohub.com/Lodgings/eco_lodge/australia_eco_lodges2.html And Sawtell Beach is off the beaten path and a lovely area...also Coffs Harbour! http://www.flickr.com/photos/kanegledhill/3142806326/ Australia is wonderful. Have a great time!

The most important advise is: rent a car if you don't you'll miss out on pulling over whenever and seeing Australian your way. Must climb mt. Kosciuszko as it is the highest peak of Australia. After that keep driving south along coast and check out the 12 apostles site. AWESOME. But seriously just having the freedom of moving around at your own speed is most important. I did the entire eastern coast bottom to top in one week but could have easily taken 3 weeks. Good luck hope you fall in love with Australia I know I did

About half way between Alice Springs and Adelaide is the opal capital of the world, Coober Pedy. Very cool place to go.

Melbourne is not as 'iconic' as Sydney, but it has a better atmosphere (and much better food). You can get flights from Sydney to Melbourne for cheap if you keep an eye out (AUD$100 return). Give Canberra a miss. It's the capital of the country, but there is not much to see for tourists - it's pretty sleepy a lot of the time. And, being fair, I do live in Canberra.

Got to agree with Amanda F, the west coast from Perth go north to The Pinnacles, Kalbari, Monkey Mia and Coral Bay. The Ningaloo Reef is far less known than the Breat Barrier Reef but is far more enjoyable (in my opinion) it's accessible from the shore, the GBR is a over an hour boat trip to get to.

Drive East Coast (Queensland) Cairns to Brisbane, or West Coast (Western Australia) Perth to Broome. Great Barrier Reef should NOT be missed!!! 3 weeks is nowhere near enough unless you plan to return for another visit.

Three weeks is not enough time at all, but heres a list of few must see things for you, Fraser island, The whitsunday islands, The great Barrier reef, The blue mountains, The nullaboar plains, the katherine gorge, magnetic island, the great ocean road and the 12 apostles, cape naturalist, wilsons promomtry, and there are many more. 3 weeks is such a short time, considering australia is simply sooo bloody big. at the end of the day you will just have to choose a few a make the most of your time, and im sure you will have fun anyway, but you could get more time, i would definately take it!!

get a buss pass from oz experience and travel cairns to sydney or vice versa. You will see the great barrier reef in cairns, magnetic island off the coast of townsville, airlie beach (from here you can get a trip to sail the whitsunday islands), surf camp, surfers paradise, brisbane, noosa (where you can venture to steve irwins australia zoo and chill with kangaroos), byron bay and sydney! The bus company takes you to an overnight surf camp and an overnight stop in the outback on a cattle ranch. Best money I ever spent and the entire east coast is incredible! PS. best hostel in sydney is wake-up. Best bar in Byron Bay is cheeky monkeys!

get out of sydney asap, the Northern beaches suck- so opt for a few in Bondi if you must- I didnt go to Perth but enjoyed Brisbane quite a bit. As always when traveling, skip the clubs and opt for wilderness. Great Ocean Road was enjoyable, especially when hitchhiking..

Since you have plenty of time, besides GBR, Sidney, take train to Melbourne then drive along Great Ocean Road. After that go to Uluru.

Obviously the Great Barrier Reef - scuba diving, snorkeling or just boating around. While in Sydney, visit Taronga Zoo. The Sydney harbor Bridge climb should not be missed - amazing view from the top.

I wouldn't miss the Great Barrier Reef, near the Cairns or Port Douglas area in northern Queensland. With global warming, the reef is constantly degrading, so see it while you can. I still also love the Red Center, despite it being touristy -I love deserts. If you do, too, then go.

I have been to Australia twice. I suggest in three weeks if you take some internal flights Sydney, Adelaide for Kangaroo Island and Cairns for the Great Barrier Reef. Have a wonderful trip.

I spent there three weeks and went first to the Red Center (Uluru, the Olgas and King's Canyon are really worth it), then to Cairns, to reach the green island, dive the barrier reef and visit the rain forest, Melbourne -and did the great ocean road- and then Sydney. Prepare to be at least three days in Melbourne and even more in Sydney and pay a visit to the Blue Mountains if you like hiking :)

depends on where you are. australia is a veeeery large country, most of the people visit the east coast, i'd say if you go there: scuba diving@GBR, sailing on the whitsunday islands, adventure trip on fraser island, surfing and partying on the gold coast and sightseeing in sydney :) for the rest, i can't give tips at the moment, haven't been there yet :) ah, i forgot the uluru rock, that is a far distance from the east coast though... and many people dream of tasmania... many things to do in australia, you should go there for more than 3 weeks ;) marc

definitly the West Coast (for exemple with Wester Xposure)! Was there a few weeks ago and loved it! Kangaroo Island in the near from Adelaide is also very nice. Fraser Island, Sunshine Coast, Whitsundays are also to recommend! Outback, specially Uluru and Olgas are really touristy. Scuba Diving in Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, is absolutly gorgous!

Thanks everyone. I ended up doing the following: - Darwin (Kakadu National Park)-In the wet season it is not so good; - Cairns (Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Forest, Cape Tribulation, Palm Cove) - Awesome weather and fantastic experience. The reef is wonderfull; - Hervey Bay (Fraser Island) - It rained alot but still Lake Mckenzie is amazing; - Sydney - A great city for walking about, i loved it; - Melbourne (and Great Ocean Road) - Melbourne is a cool city with an european flavour, The Great Ocean Road is a must see. Conclusion: 3 weeks is definetly not enough...
