Hi Jonny, I just got back from a trip to Hungary, Romania and Moldova. I was only in Moldova for a few days and didn't go clubbing, but I managed to see quite a few sights in that time. There is an interesting war memorial complex near the town centre in Chisinau where, if you time it right, you can see the changing of the guards, who all march in unison lifting their legs higher than their waist! You could spend an afternoon at the interesting ethnographic museum complete with a 5 metre long full skeleton from the dinosaur age. It's definitely worth doing a day or overnight trip to Orhei Vecchi - the rock monasteries. You could also do a day trip to Milestii Mici, a local Moldovan winery, which has one of the largest underground cellars in the world that you actually drive through. But the best day trip of all in my opinion is a trip to Transnistria, a breakaway republic with its own currency and president. Tiraspol and Bendery are its two biggest towns, and both have their fair share of soldiers and old army tanks now in disuse forming part of national monuments. The people are very friendly too in Moldova so don't hesitate to ask the locals what they recommend. Have a great trip. Oh and don't fly Tarom from Bucharest to Chisinau. They lost my luggage and said "it happens all the time in summer". Some of the planes apparently aren't big enough to carry all of the passengers and their luggage (and the crazy thing is they will readily admit it!) In hindsight, the 12 hour or so train trip may have been easier!
