Rila mountains and monastery are marvelous. Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Koprivshtitsa is a historic town. Varna to enjoy the water sports and sunshine of the Black Sea. And of course, Sofia, the capital.

I really liked Plovdiv. It has a nice historical centre and excavated ruins from thousands of years ago.

Nessebar/Sunny beach, Pirin mountains and Sofia to starters. And Balchick city/Albena at the north-east. Best way (IMHO) from Sofia to coast through this beautiful valleys, forests.

I have made this Google Map to help you along. These were some of the places we visited along with some Lonely Planet references (LP Bulgaria 3rd edition, 2008). Check it out and feel free to ask for details: http://g.co/maps/23he

It depends what you like! You could find almost anything. Nice old history, exellent party places, real relaxing resorts(those are relly hidden-need very deep reserch). If you enjoy the crowd and the blocks of flats of a postcommunistic society - you'll find this as well!
