Koh Samui is easy to go around just rent a car or motorbike drive around the island, chill out the beach and enjoy nightlife if you like live music or rock music go to Sham Rock at Lamai the show band called Ovada.

Personally, I love Ko Jum. It's a quieter island among the Koh Samui, Ko Phi Phi region. I stayed at one guest house called Bo Daeng, run by local Chao Lei or sea gypsy people -- these are the people that traditionally used these islands like sea nomads, but nowadays they sell the land so big developers come in and build resorts, making loads of money. But Bo Daeng is one of the few places on Ko Jum that still has the local traditional hospitality -- run by the lovely Delia I have resolved to go back there every few years. The accommodation is **very** basic but the cheapest on the entire island. The food is fantastic. If I had a choice I would go back to this place for as long as possible and not bother going to all the other islands!

Do an island tour to get an overview- cheap and run daily; day trip to koh tao for snorkling or diving; eat at Prego's- best Italian food ever and the Thai place basically opposite that has huts on the beach, get down to Lamu beach- another restraunt that does fab peri peri chicken. Shopping is more $$$ than bangkok, so if ur heading thru bangkok, get all your shopping done in ko sun road. the only other must do thing is to relax and enjoy it!! and dont end up in Samui International hospital like i did...with pneumonia!!

For Koh Samui I suggest leaving the beaten track, as it is reaaaally touristic. I can only recommend visiting the night markets and wandering around the "city" in the evenings! It`s warm, the people are friendly, don`t get irritated if they want you to eat at their restaurant, they can be a little persistent^^And the food is much more authentic if you don`t stay at your hotel or resort. I totally adored the airport, I hope it`s still full of flowers and a little old-fashioned. There is a butterfly-farm, very interesting! Gigantic butterflies, wonderful colours. Boat trips are always a good investigation!
