I lived in Scotland for 4 years and it was the best time of my life. The people are friendly, the country is beautiful and the Scots have a rich and interesting history. Edinburgh is probably my favorite city in the world. I hope some day to settle down there.

Scotland is a fantastic, magical place! Steeped in history - I always root for the underdog - and brimming with lively social activities, it's a great place for families, singles, retirees - anybody. I particularly enjoyed sitting in on a session of the Scottish Parliament. These guys know how to debate and make it entertaining. The Tattoo is a must see and - be brave - try some Haggis, Neeps, & Tatties at one of the multitude of wonderful restaurants that are popping up all over. Good Travels!

Scotland is fantastic - from the locks to the glenns. And from the whiskey distillery to the pub. Edinbourgh is amazing during festival time and I highly suggest it.

I am studying in Scotland from USA, and it is phenomenal! The people are really friendly and always helpful. Enough cannot be said about kilts, whisky, and haggis! The highlands are especially ruggedly beautiful and must be seen, Edinburgh is possibly the best city to live in and travel around, absolutely gorgeous. 5 stars!

Scotland is big. Some bits are like any UK city. The highlands are remote and unique. For the best views try to go when its good weather.

It was great during Summer, I went to Edinburgh and Glasgow, then head up to Inverness. Inverness was still a bit chilly in July, but everything else was great. I LOVE Edinburgh, is a city, but everything was close by and the air is clean and fresh.

I love Scotland...it is so beautiful, especially the countryside, mountains and lochs. People are friendly and the highland cows are so cute! If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a cottage on one of the lakes. Some day. :)

Scotland is amzing. I was there for 3 weeks and didn't have time to do it justice. Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities. Loved Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye, as well as the highlands. Had it snow on us in mid-May. Wasn't prepared for that.

I went to Edinburgh and loved the time I spent there. It is honestly one of my favorite cities. The people are fantastic and (unlike in some places) have no problem helping people or being nice. I would go back in a heartbeat :)

Scotland is one of the most amazing countries in the world!! I lived in Edinburgh for just under 1 year working and living the life. Edinburgh is one of my most favorite cities in the world. The people in Scotland are friendly and helpful, in some cities in Scotland its hard to understand the locals, especially the oldies, but its so easy to get along with them. Take a tour up north to see the highlands which is one of the most amazing mountain ranges in the world. The castles and Loch's are amazing. Loch Ness is a must and the Eilean Donan castle is the most beautiful castle in the world.
If you up for some local drink, you will love a Morgan's Spiced rum mixed with coke (its sweet) and have a shot of the many flavors of Aftershock. Not to mention all the malt whiskeys!!

It seems a unanimous vote that Edinburgh is so beautiful - and I agree too but going to Aviemore and the Lochs (lakes) are absolutely beautiful. I love Scotland. Yes it is so rich in culture, wild beauty and such a rich heritage with a long history that is fascinating. My favourite spot is Loch Ness (yes where the tales of the Loch Ness monster is born). There is a castle ruin on the edge of this loch and seems somehow romantic & mystifying. Especially when the mist slides across the Loch and meanders through and over the rough edges of this ruins.
The Scots have a great sense of humour - takes time to understand their accent but I love it.

As someone who was born and lives in Edinburgh it's interesting to hear your answers - and nice to read such positive thoughts. I guess it just goes to show that the grass is greener since personally I'm always looking to escape elsewhere!! Edinburgh is a great city but the weather gets me down in a big way. Scotland has a lot to offer (the West coast and islands are amazing) but again the weather always plays such a big role. But thanks - for making me think of my city and country through the eyes of a visitor. I should appreciate it more!

Of all my travels, Scotland will always be a favorite and hold a special place within me. I studied for a semester at the University of Stirling, and it was my first real independent traveling experience. I went back again last summer and felt like I was coming home. I've looked at Grad schools and would love to settle down there permanently.
The people are open and friendly, the history is fascinating, and the country is absolutely stunning. I've explored much of Scotland including many of the islands (Orkney, Skye, Harris, Lewis) and taken many trips to the highlands. Edinburgh is my favorite city in the world. One can get a taste of the past while exploring the Royal Mile, castle, or just wandering the cobbled streets or closes. It has a great night life with many lively pubs to explore. Great shopping also on Princes Street. Can't go wrong with a country whose national delicacies are Haggis (oats, herbs, and innards cooked in sheep’s stomach) and fried mars bars, right? :)

Scotland was my 1st big, out of the country trip & it will always be my favorite. Jennifer was right, the history is very amazing. Endinburgh was a great city & if you get the chance drive around the highlands also. A visit to Loch Ness is a must! I went in March & the weather was great with just a little rain.
