Besides the obvious Royal Palace & various temples, a boat trip along the network of canals through 'old' Bangkok is great. Find a guy along one of the Jetties near Wat Pho/Royal Palace and organize a trip with one of the boat-owners to do it at your own pace (i.e. as opposed to getting on the over-crowded tourist boats that zip through too quickly).

Absolutely the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). It is the most important temple of the whole Thailand. If u don't see this, it'is like going to Rome and not visiting the Colosseum. Everything else is less important.

Go to Siam Square ( great fun in itself), on Soi Kasem san road 2 you will find the Jim Thompson house, which is really worth your time as it gives you a good example of how rich people lived in the past.

The weekend market. End of the subway line. Over 10,000 stalls and the most insanely amazing and overwhelming shopping/people watching experience.

Pat Pong district - a city block that opens at night - full of knock off anything - bargin all night long - and on the outside of the shop stalls - are all the "live nude women" shows that Bangkok is famous for in the movies. When the guys approach with menus of stick figures in various suggestive positions with a price tag - it is something you have to see to believe. At least once that is

Floating Market is a must early in the morning & I've heard the Tiger Temple is good also. These two should take you all day and are booked together.
Just jump in a Tuk Tuk & tell the driver You will make a stop for him at a place to buy the tour. Since your going somewhere the he gets paid to take you the ride should be free. Feel free to tip.

My exeperience was that, once I was there I took all 'folders' available (Bangkok is very tourist oriented so you will get plenty of information, and things are smoothly arranged) and decided what I wanted to dp & see... My suggestion is that you do the same.
I saw the Summer Palace, the Royal Palace, Wat Arun, the ancient capital, took the River Kwai tour (history), went to the National Park, oxccart riding, elephant riding, etc. etc.
There is really A LOT to see in Bangkok!..

Depends what you are in to. My favorite was jumping tuk tuks and asking to go see Buddha. It is amazing all the different places you see that way. We saw laying down buddha, standing buddha, buddha on a mountain, very big sitting buddha... it was pretty amazing and fun at the same time.
