To get a feeling of the real LA, do what locals do, don't be just a tourist. Universal studios and Hollywood are worth a visit, but if you have time rent a car and travel south of the airport to Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach to get a real taste of californian lifestyle. Beautiful beach houses, nice bars and restaurants and the best sunsets in the world. Venice and Santa Monica are definitely worth some time (check out my review of Muscle Beach, a must if you are there), you can easily go from one to the other walking along the beach. Drive around in Beverly Hills and have a meal at Il Pastaio or Cafe Roma, great italian restaurants! I lived there for a few years, so let me know if you need more suggestions.

Well, the Griffith Observatory is an interesting place. Hollywood is rather disappointing, in my opinion. Venice Beach is also worth a visit, since it's a more "alternative" place, away from the glitz and glamour.

Although most of Los Angeles is urban, the campus at UCLA is absolutely gorgeous. I recommend a drive through there. :)

Los Angeles is large and can be a bit overwhelming. For a quiet place to relax and get recentered, you must visit the Getty Musuem. You can see alot of LA but also the mountains from there. Walking the hollywood Strip is a great tourist outing. I also enjoy Santa Monica, and a trip to San Pedro for the large seafood meals.

Santa Monica sem a menor dúvida. O lugar é muito charmoso. Porém não dá pra não visitar Venice Beach que é muito pitoresco, mas cuidado com o horário da visita. Prefira dias mais quentes, fins de semana e durante o dia mesmo.

Go see the 'Walk of Fame' outside Grauman's CHinese Theatre. 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. Stars set into the sidewalk with names and sometimes foot or hand prints.

I'd go for sant monica. It's a nice area near the ebach- but everything in LA seems to be at a distance form everything else- so anywhere's as good as the next I guess
