I wouldn't say "the" religion. All the countries of the Amazon basin have Catholic majorities. But there are growing populations of Christians of other sects. Brazil also has the religions of Macumba and Candomble, which are based on tribal African religions mixed with elements of Catholicism. Where the Native American tribes still exist, they each have their own tribal religions.
