Crocodiles are more active in the summer months. So if you go to a Crocodile farm expect more action (jumping etc) when it is *damn* hot. Btw Australia Zoo was OK, but if you want to get closer to the action I recommend the smaller parks. For example, in Townsville the Billabong Sanctuary has free roaming Wallabies, free Koala pats or cuddles (photo just $10), pat a snake, baby crocodile, lizards - great for kids too. And you can get splashed by the water of the jumping crocodiles. But if you want to just focus on the crocodiles, go to Darwin and travel on a river cruise - you have to stand on the top level of the 2-level boat because they jump till just the end of the tail is left in the water - scary when the croc is 3-4 metres long.

If it flies, noisy and colourful. If it's got scales, poisonous or bitey. If it has hair, cute, but still dangerous if treated poorly. If it swims, it's a mixed bag.

To watch platypuses, go to Eungella National Park!! That's great (close to Proserpine and Mackay, QD). The place where I saw more koalas was in Cape Otwell National Park when we were on the great ocean road (close to Melbourne)

You don't really come across many animals in the capital cities except birds. If you want to see some wild animals your best bet is to take a drive to smaller towns. You're likely to spot Kangaroos, possibly emus & goannas. If you are on the east coast you might be lucky enough to see a koala. If you want to see a lot of different animals you should head to a wildlife park. A good one is Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland - this one is run by the Irwin family. Otherwise the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile farm in Broome, Western Australia is good. There are croc feeding tours in the north of Australia & many other parks & tours available. Just ask around - most Aussies will be happy to point you in the right direction.

There are a lot of Marcupials and other strange creatures. The platepus, while rare, is worth seeing. The venom in their sting is very useful for medicinal purposes. Kangaroos tend to be lazy and lay about in the sun, but when agitated, they can get quite nasty and dangerous. You should go to wildlife parks, especially in Tasmania.

Don't forget the whale sharks which come to Ningaloo reef avery year from April. There are only about 1000 left of them in the world and Ningaloo is one of the only places in the world where they come back to every year. I have swam with 4 of them and it was amazing!

The Kangaroos are a pain in the ass. You have to be super careful driving off of the major highways or you will hit a Kangaroo... They are everywhere! Unless you have a ute with a grill don't go driving after dusk. You wont see dingos except on the coast in touristy areas and don't go swimming north of Rockhampton unless you KNOW they water is safe or you may not come back out the saltwater crocs are pretty bad. The south is safe to swim though. Oh yeah and watch the oceans cause in certain monthes the north is ful of jellyfish... not to mention the crocs... The cockatoos are pretty cool, can be a bit of a pest with the crops. We got some huge as boars your can hunt koalas which are faily harmless and you dont see a lot of unless you know where to look...echidnas, snakes are poisonous, reptiles, emus, dont be scared of them but don't get to close they can get pretty meanm sea snakes, turtles, fish, wallabies, platypuses, are rare and hard to spot. Hope this was helpful!

I was amazed by the wildlife when I visited Australia because it is simply everywhere! Kangaroos are by far the easiest to spot, but koalas, wallabies, echidnas, dolphins, sharks, rays, turtles, emus, seals, penguins, etc. can also be seen quite easily if you go to the right places. I found Kangaroo Island to be the best place for wildlife watching. We saw tons of koalas, sea lions, seals, wallabies, kangaroos and even echidnas and all of them very close up. Platypuses are probably the hardest to spot. Some of the wildlife in Australia is small, but cannot be found anywhere else on earth! The wildlife and national parks are definitely the best things about Australia!

Wildlife in Australia is amazing and often Australians dont realise how much there is until they live overseas. Make sure the aussies you get feedback from have actually been out of the country so they have something to compaire it to. I now live in Dubai and miss the smell of the trees and the sound of the wildlife. It is beautiful.

Hey there Adam. Wildlife in Aussie is not that great. Of course it has certain species that are endemic only to Aussie. But overall not much variety. Look up this site for details on whats available in Aussie. http://www.wildlifetourism.org.au/wfaust.htm

Wildlife is very specific, yet not what you would expect after watching TV. Parrots are pretty popular and they are around in cities which has a nice touch. Kangaroos are all over the place and it's very easy to see them. My favorite however are Koalas. Cute litlle creatures hanging around on trees :)
