Morocco is a gorgeous and safe country...just avoid faux guides who will try to lead you around for a ridiculous price, and also watch out for sellers who will try to make you purchase their merchandise. If you do buy something from them, inspect the item VERY carefully to make sure you are paying what it is worth (I got tricked on this by buying a cracked piece of pottery from a kid). Also it is illegal to bring Moroccan currency out of the country, so you will have to exchange your currency for dirham once you get there.

Some of the local merchants will try to get you to buy a mass-produced souvenir and tell you that it is hand made and charge 20 times the value. Also watch out for the carpet salesmen, VERY high pressure sales.

I've been there alone for 10 days and I felt really safely. Just don't pay for anything if you don't know the price :-)

Avoid drinking water from the tap (especially if you are not staying a very long time in Morocco). Do not miss to see the real Morocco, hang out with the friendly moroccans, visit the souks and the places off the beaten track. If you are invited to a dinner at a moroccan home, accept! It is the best food ever, and nothing like the moroccan food in the restaurants! Last but not least, pay respect to the culture and religion, just like in any other place.

If you're a girl (though I think you're not;) don't smoke in public, someone may throw an orange at you.luckily, they may miss. I drank tap water and travelled alone and am still alive, so I guess it depends... When bargaining don't say you're American or German (is this advice too obvious?), say you're a student from Poland or something like that;) and try not to look/sound too American/German/whatever nationality perceived as rich.
When it comes to night clubs, it can be tricky or even impossible for girls (even if accompanied by a male companion) to dance without attracting a HUUUGE attention to themselves, so be careful.
Bu t all in all, Morocco's great, enjoy your stay and good luck:)

Maybe i shouldnt answer this question cos i drank local water a few times (...no probs tho) and hung around with locals i had just met! Morocco i found was very safe, just do all the normal things like covering up and keeping your valuables secure. Learn about what quality items, and how to recognise them so you dont bargin for mass made items...you can visit government cooperatives in Fes to learn all this. Dont take photos without asking and be prepared to pay for some photos.

Don't allow a shopping guide for the souk! Insist that you do not need one!!! They want to guide you thru and 'help' you get better prices. They actually take you to the places they want you to shop and you end up paying more. Insist you DO NOT need one.

don't visit the souk = bazzar by yourself...people will pull your hand and you will have a big problem to bargain. Find someone local tip him about 10 dirhams and he will show you around the souk, settle the good price you will get good quality product and he will bargain for you.
Another advice set the price with taxi driver before you sit in his taxi and pay him after you reach the destination... Taxi drivers will also drive you to touradant and show you around like a guide for appx. 50€ - it's a whole day trip.
